The signature of Lisa Baack

Lisa Baack, my mom, was a prolific abstract painter whose work spanned over 50 years, creating vibrant acrylic paintings on large canvas and mixed media that explored light, color, and the human essence.

Born and raised in Southern California, Lisa's creative journey began with music and dance before discovering her true calling in visual art. After earning her teaching degree and teaching in Hawaii and the San Francisco Bay Area, she settled in Marin County in the early 1960s where she retired from teaching to focus on raising her family and developing her artwork. Lisa's postgraduate studies included University of California Extension in Berkeley and the JFK University Master of Fine Arts Program.

A creative, elegant, graceful, strong, intelligent, kind woman with a witty sense of humor–her wide smile always lit up the room. Lisa loved to feel the light of the late afternoon sun and then capture that feeling on canvas. She loved to see the seasons through veils of color and express that visual event on canvas. Lisa loved painting a figure that is no one in particular, but everyone in essence. Her paintings were shown in galleries and her art remains in private and corporate collections across the country. We are honored to share Lisa's artwork so others may experience the joy and beauty she brought to canvas.
